Overview
About Small Parts Ultrasound
Scans of smaller glands and soft tissue structures.
“Small parts” refers to structures that sit close to the skin surface. Because they are shallow, they can be imaged at high frequency, which produces very fine detail, often finer than deeper structures allow.
If you have had imaging of the same area before, bringing it with you lets your sonographer compare directly and note any change, which is frequently the most useful part of the report.
What this scan covers
- Breast ultrasound – used to examine breast tissue.
- Axilla – lymph nodes under the arm.
- Thyroid and neck – gland and soft tissue assessment.
- Scrotum – testicular structures and blood flow.
- Salivary glands – for swelling, stones or infection.

Bring any previous imaging relating to the area.

Referrals, costs and Medicare
Referrals and Medicare
A valid referral from your GP or specialist is required for all diagnostic ultrasounds performed at UBM Scans. With a valid referral, all diagnostic ultrasound scans at UBM Scans are bulk billed — there is no out-of-pocket cost to you.
Costs and health insurance
Because your scan is bulk billed, we bill Medicare directly: there is no invoice to pay and nothing for you to claim back afterwards. Bring your Medicare card and your referral to your appointment. Keepsake 3D and 4D scans are not medical scans, so they are not covered by Medicare — those are priced on our packages page.
