Overview

About Gynaecology / Pelvic Ultrasound

Used to assess the pelvic organs, including the uterus and ovaries. Common reasons include investigating uterine fibroids, cysts, pelvic pain, or abnormal bleeding.

A full bladder lifts the bowel out of the way and creates a clear acoustic window through to the uterus and ovaries, which is why the preparation matters so much for this particular scan. If you find it uncomfortable to wait, let our team know when you arrive.

Your sonographer will explain each step before it happens and you are welcome to ask questions throughout. Your report is sent directly to the doctor who referred you, who will discuss the findings and any next steps with you.

What this scan covers

  • Uterus – structure, lining and any fibroids.
  • Ovaries – including cysts and follicle assessment.
  • Investigation of pelvic pain.
  • Investigation of abnormal bleeding.
