Overview

About Musculoskeletal (MSK) Ultrasound

Used to examine soft tissues such as tendons, ligaments, bursae, and muscles. Commonly used to investigate pain, swelling, sprains, or suspected tears.

Musculoskeletal ultrasound has a particular advantage over some other imaging: it is dynamic. Your sonographer can move the joint while scanning it, which means a tendon or muscle can be assessed while it is actually working rather than only at rest.

This makes it well suited to investigating pain that only appears with certain movements, and to assessing sprains, suspected tears and swelling around a joint.
